2021 SUMMER MUSIC GOODNESS

(Proof Positive – We Will Rock Again)

by Shannon MacDonald

As we left the 2020 Concert Season in a file marked “Never Again” – we hit the ground running with positive emotions for the new summer. The 2021 Season started on May 29th with an ambitious line up which lit up the platform of our outdoor “Festival Stage” with two fine tribute acts… “Shoot To Thrill” and “Tres Cerveza”. As with any fan of either band, one could decipher “the goods” by the clever titles of each act. The show began with a full-on contribution to the 3-chord rattlesnake masters of Texas (complete with long beards)… Yeah, you guessed it! ZZ Top was in the house! Tres Cervesa performed with high octane grit and showmanship with songs we all cherish from the Rough Boys of Houston.

With a short break, the highlight of the day was the anticipation and return of the all-female leather and lace ACDC show, which always guarantees to raise Hell’s Bells to the surface. The ladies of “Shoot to Thrill” know how to grab their audience by the heart and hold them in a “Thunderstruck Trance” until their last chord. Both bands filled the air with magic and lit fire to the day with extreme enthusiasm. The powerful sounds of raunchy guitars, rocking vocals, and punchy bottom stole the afternoon while its musical ambiance lost itself somewhere and forever in the echoing chambers of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The cheerful crowd was on their feet and met the day, and the music, head-on with extreme pleasure. Saloon Studios was “LIVE” again. We were back!

As the summer moved forward the weekends were filled with rock’n goodness from national, international, and local acts that seized the days and took no prisoners. Highlights from the national and international sides were both “no stranger” to Saloon Studios Live…

Artimus Pyle was back in West Jefferson and did not disappoint! The original drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and his band, honored the amazing sound of Ronnie Van Zant and the Whiskey Rock-a-Rollers of Jacksonville, Florida. We were entertained with great remembrance of songs like…

  • Saturday Night Special
  • Call Me the Breeze
  • That Smell
  • Honky Tonk Night Time Man
  • Tuesday’s Gone
  • Last of the Street Survivors
  • The Needle and the Spoon

Pat Travers, no stranger to Saloon Studios Live, took to our indoor venue, once again, and performed his raw and signature sound with passion and high-gear drive. The Toronto born guitarist, with his blues-fueled influence was once again… a major delight. Some of this songs from the Travers Set-List included:

  • Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)
  • Snortin’ Whiskey
  • Crash and Burn
  • Life in London
  • I La La La Love You
  • Born Under A Bad Sign
  • Hammerhead

“The Wild Flowers”, a Tom Petty tribute band, is gaining positive recognition across the south east and is being called America’ #1 Petty Tribute. With front man, Jonathan Guthrie at the helm, the band stayed true to their accolades with an amazing performance on our stage. Other talented musicians and bands that were with us during the 2021 Summer Season were…

  • Littlewood and Friends
  • Restless
  • Matt Bizzell
  • 9DAYTRIP
  • Those Three Guys
  • Liam Percell and Cane Mill Road
  • Blue Country

We are already booking our 2022 shows and will continue to update our patrons with all our Music-News as we move forward. We look forward to next year’s talent. Remember…. Saloon Studios Live also books recording and video time on our West Jefferson complex.

See you in 2022!!!
